Officials say it’s due to an elevated fire danger.
Frederick, Md (KM) Both Frederick and Washington Counties have put burn bans into affect. The two counties say it’s due to the elevated risk of fire danger because of dry weather conditions, increased temperatures and wind activity.
The Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office put a burn ban in affect on Sunday, March 2nd. Officials in Washington County put their burn ban in affect on Monday, March 3rd.
All outdoor burning is prohibited in both counties,. including but not limited to campfires, open fire pits, burning debris and brush, and agricultural burns. Residents are urged to use other methods of disposing of yard waste, such as mulching and taking yard waste to drop off locations such as the Frederick County Landfill.
“This precautionary measure is essential to protect lives, property and natural resources,” says Alan Matheny, Director of the Washington County Office of Emergency Management, in a statement. “We urge all residents and businesses to comply with the ban to prevent substantial wildfires and ensure the safety of our community.”
These bans are in affect until further notice.
