The attack happened on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park’s Towpath Trail
Frederick, Md. (DG) – A suspect has been identified and arrested in connection with the March 2024 assault of a woman on a walking trail in Frederick County, Maryland.
Authorities say 34-year-old John Hawk of Florence, South Carolina, was wanted for an attack on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park’s Towpath Trail. After a yearlong investigation, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, working with the FBI and National Park Service, confirmed Hawk as the suspect.
He was arrested in Florence, South Carolina, on March 10 without incident and is now awaiting extradition to Maryland. Hawk faces multiple charges, including attempted third-degree sex offense and false imprisonment.
